After buying a Victorian flat in the Scottish capital, this client from Berkshire was looking for help. She didn’t know how to choose the right curtains & blinds for an Edinburgh period flat with tall windows and high ceilings.

And so, not being local, she wasn’t familiar with the size of windows, single glazing and what constraints there are with working shutters. So one of my Berkshire colleagues referred her to me to help her find the right window treatments.

Mindful that the flat is for her daughter to live in whilst at university, I was able to guide her with suggestions as to what would look good and yet also be practical.

A lot of our communication was by email, with me sending photos of fabrics and designs for the ideal curtains & blinds for an Edinburgh period flat. This way, my client was able to visualise in a non-technical way what I was talking about.

For the bedrooms and living room, we chose plain fabrics for the window treatments. Our main focus here was to underline the traditional architecture as well as the simple, uncluttered furnishing.

But the kitchen at the back of the flat needed a different solution. Being quite dark and looking out on to a stone wall, we decided to be bolder. The result is a roman blind in a jazzy geometric print to brighten up the room. It looks great as you can see in the photo below!
