After refurbishing and extending a traditional stone-built property in Morningside, Edinburgh, my client was looking for help finding timeless curtains & blinds for her home. This included the main public rooms, bedrooms, the main bathroom, a shower room and two stair windows.

Personal service & flexibility

My client initially contacted another curtain maker when she was researching what choices and styles would suit the types of windows found in her house. However, while she was looking for a timeless style that reflected her own and her husband’s tastes, she felt that the curtain maker didn’t listen to her requirements or take her opinions on board.

And so, not finding the flexibility and personal service she was looking for, she got in touch with me. We had an initial phone call and a meeting in which we discussed her ideas and I explained my process. And then she was happy to go ahead.

Ideas & inspiration

I produced design mood boards for each of the rooms which took inspiration from my client’s preferred colour palettes, existing accessories and paintings.

I also produced virtual renderings and swatches of the actual fabrics I suggested. These showed my client how the proposed window treatments could look.

I offered three options for each room. These gave my client an idea of what styles were possible for the different rooms and windows, without overwhelming her with choice.

My client asked for some small tweaks to the designs for her husband’s study. And then she gave me the green light to get started on making their made-to-measure, hand-sewn and timeless curtains & blinds.
