Bandrum Nursing Home in Fife is an independently owned nursing home providing specialist adult care and care of the elderly. They were looking for help with a nursing home interior design for their new-build frail elderly unit.
My work covered the complete nursing home interior design for their new wing. This included colour schemes, furniture, window treatments, lighting, accessories and artwork. Each resident has their own bedroom, so it was important that the rooms had their own design identity.
The idea was to reflect the nursing home’s countryside setting in a contemporary way in the communal living areas as well as the bedrooms. We used lots of fabrics with a modern country feel as well as contemporary plaids to bring the Fife countryside into the home.
While planning, I had to be mindful of the needs of residents who may exhibit early signs of dementia.
For this reason, established academic principles around colour and patterns played an important part in the overall design scheme.
What the client says
We’ve received so much positive feedback from residents, staff and relatives about the way our new unit looks. We’ve even received compliments from the staff at one of the UK’s leading centres for dementia research. We couldn’t have achieved this without Catherine’s great sense of colour and style.
